Happy Chinese New Year 2009
With Chinese New Year just less that 1 week, I am already feeling so excited. I am like a little child that so happy, happily waiting for the married couple to give me angpow. Actually the excitement is more on the shopping spree for my family. For example I got to shops for cookies, decorations, clothes, nian guo, etc. for the family.
Maybe it is the atmosphere at the Chinatown or the shopping mall has made me excited. Paint the whole town red, as the saying goes, but it is so true when you see so many red cny decorations at most of places. With the loud Chinese New Year’s song at the mall, what can I ask for right?

As I grew older, I am getting more tradition with the culture and tradition. Maybe I don’t hope to see the tradition fate with time as many youngsters now days are expose to the tradition and culture. Some don’t seem to be care on the festival and the only things that they are looking forward to are the hongbao and public holiday.
Call me “old tradition uncle” but my Chinese New Year have always been very red. Red lanterns, red packets, red clothes, red flowers, red decorations etc. All these are just symbols and believe, hoping that the year will bring lucks, joys, prosperous to me.
For me the preparations for the celebration will start as early as a month before the festival. Doing spring-cleaning of my house hoping to rid them of last year’s bad luck, displaying Chinese New Year decoration for represent the festival and arrival of spring, shopping for oranges to ensure a new beginning of good fortune and prosperity to the household in the coming year, etc.
I was too craze over the celebration that I was about to buy a pot of lime tree (kumquat tree). But, maybe the price really put me off, as a pot of kumquat easily cost at $38.00 for a small pot. Anyway, kumquat signifying wealth and abundant good fortune.

Happy Chinese new year everyone....... May the ox year bring abundance of happiness, joys, wealth and great health to you
