Johor Laksa

A trip to JB was like going back to memory lane when I stopped by at an old kopitiam. The kopitiam resembled the old shop at my hometown and yes, they are selling the best ice kopi and the Johor laksa.
The old kopitiam still remained its tradition design of the shop and here the owner displaying some of the old pictures of JB’s landscape before it is fully developed into a big city.

The seats were so old design that I feel that I am in the 80s…..hahahhahaha. Such a retro design…..

This is my first time eating Johor Laksa and it’s good. Every states in Malaysia have its own taste bud due to different lifestyle and group ethnics and resources available in the states.

For example, Penang popular with its asam laksa, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur popular with its Curry Laksa. Johor on its own famous with its Johor Laksa. The laksa is not as spicy as curry laksa but somehow or rather it taste good. Just some simple fihsball, dried taufu skin and some cockle, the mean indeed was quite heavenly.

Johor laksa has coconut milk, use 'kerisik', dried prawns, lemon grass, galangal and spices akin to curry. The garnishing comprises slices of onion, beansprouts (taugeh), mint leaves, Vietnamese coriander or 'daun kesum', cucumber and pickled white radish. A dab of shrimp paste (sambal belacan) is placed on the side.
I remembered that the laksa shop at my homwtown only sell laksa on the weekend only and I was dying to wait till the weekend just to enjoy the laksa. I must admit that the laksa was so great as the gravy was thick and full of coconut milk, the home made sambal that go vey well with the laksa and the generous of green chilli pickle. The aunty always very generous to me as I was the loyal customer that will help her to do packing of the laksa as she was alone mending her shop.
Thus, the trip to JB was indeed fulfilling as I get to eat a great bowl of laksa that goes so well with m kopi bing...
